Your child’s health and safety are important to us. Acute and chronic health conditions may significantly impact your child’s academic performance. The American Academy of Pediatrics Council on School Health (COSH) defines school health as an integration of wellness, safety, growth, learning, and development in the lives of school-aged children and adolescents. Not only is this in the context of their school, but it is also with the coordinated alliance of the family and health care providers.

The Child Health department aims for every child and adolescent in BT天堂 City Schools to be healthy and safe while achieving academic success. School nurses, in collaboration with the Alabama State Department of Education and the Jefferson County Department of Health, strive to enrich, educate and enlighten our students through providing accessible health care, promoting prevention, and partnering with parents and staff to facilitate daily school attendance, enhance academic achievement, and to enable students to perform at their personal best.

Our School Nurses:

-Provide direct healthcare for students and staff

-Provide screenings and referrals for health conditions

-Promote health and a healthy school environment

-Serves as a liaison between school personnel, family, the community and healthcare providers

 Our goal is that all children will enjoy optimal health and thus be able to gain the most from their education.

ADHD is a condition where those diagnosed have difficulty staying focused and paying attention, difficulty controlling behavior and hyperactivity. Individuals with ADHD may qualify for accommodations under the ADA and Section 504 if their ADHD impacts a major life function such as learning.
